In the story “Union Strength” from The Giant Crab, and Other Tales from the Old India by W.H.D. Rouse, the author writes about a group of clever quails who escapes the hunt of a Fowler, but ends up with fatal results due to a silly quarrelsome that they couldn’t resolve. With that being said, the Fowler in the story was able to imitate the quail’s note exactly, and he was also able to find a hiding-place filled with quails. He then came up with a plan that could allow him to bag them all by throwing a net over them after calling out the quail’s note to lure them outside their hiding-place. However, unfortunately for the Fowler, the quails had one extremely bright bird that was able to lead the birds to safety.
Moreover, they followed the advise of the bright bird and arranged themselves so that when the net was thrown over them, their head would pop out, and then at the word, they would all fly together. As a result of the plan, the birds were able to fly freely away from the Fowler.
Still, the Fowler continued his same hunt, hoping that one day he would be able to catch because he thought that sooner or later, they would all begin to quarrel. With that being said, he was right. One day, one bird angrily shouted at another because his foot was treaded over. While they were arguing, the Fowler was able to catch them when they weren’t paying attention.
In conclusion, I thought the most important event in the plot was when the birds were all quarreling. With that being said, one my version of the story, I would probably change the event to which the birds were able to solve their problem quickly before they were captured by the Fowler. I thought that the birds working together were extremely smart, so I decided to have the ending of the plot change and the birds were able to escape once again from the Fowler.
